Outlook.com allows 25MB
For a personal Outlook.com account the attachment limit is 25MB (official help, checked September 12, 2026).
Work and school accounts (Microsoft 365, Exchange) depend on what the administrator set, and it is often lower than 25MB. Before sending something important, test with a small file or ask.
Why the target is 18MB
Email converts attachments to base64, which makes them about 37% larger in transit. A 25MB video is handled as about 34MB and will not send, so this page targets 18MB.

Tips from the pros
- Outlook has four different limits depending on how you use it. Outlook.com in a browser is 25 MB. The desktop app with ordinary mail (POP3/IMAP) is 20 MB, with Exchange 10 MB. Work accounts on Microsoft 365 default to 35 MB, and an administrator can set anywhere from 1 to 150 MB.

Why aim at 18 MB?
Attachments grow by about 37% when sent. 25 MB ÷ 1.37 ≈ 18 MB.
I saw a "34 MB" figure somewhere.
That number appears in no Microsoft document. The closest real value is 33 MB, which applies to Outlook on phones.
Is work mail the same?
Often not — an administrator sets the limit. If it bounces, try around 10 MB.
Does this send the mail for me?
No. It only makes the file smaller. You attach it yourself.
