Compress a video for WhatsApp

Make a video small enough to send as a video on WhatsApp. The limit changes with your connection, so we aim at the value that always works. It never leaves your device.

  1. Choose a video

    Drop a video here, or

Your video never leaves your device

  2. What do you want to do?

  3. How do you want to edit it?

Pick as many as you like. Each one opens its own editing screen, and they are all applied in one pass at the end.

  4. Make the file

Four promises

No upload

Your video is handled only on your own device. It is never sent anywhere, so you can safely use it with work or school videos.

Just pick

Pick Discord as the place you are sending to, and the size and the picture quality are set for you. There is nothing complicated to set up.

No watermark

Nothing is stamped onto your video, and there is no limit on how many you make.

Picture quality like the pros

We use the numbers people use in video work. If the picture quality is going to drop a lot, we tell you before you save.

How to use it

  1. Choose the video you want to send.
  2. Pick "WhatsApp" as the destination.
  3. Check "What you will get" to compare the size before and after.
  4. Make the file, then send it on WhatsApp yourself.

The target is 64MB

WhatsApp’s video limit is described as anywhere from 64MB to 100MB in official guidance, because it depends on the connection and the device. To work in every case, this page targets the safe 64MB.

If you know 100MB will go through, use compress to 100MB for more quality.

Sending to people abroad

  • On a thin connection, a smaller file arrives more reliably. Keeping a one- or two-minute clip near 20MB also saves the recipient’s data.
  • Vertical video plays full screen on a phone — see make a vertical video.

If quality matters

WhatsApp may compress your video again, so shrinking too far yourself degrades it twice. Cut the length and keep the quality (edit the length).

Tips from the pros

  • The WhatsApp limit depends on your connection. The official help says 100 MB at 720p on a fast connection and 64 MB at 480p on a slow one. We target 64 MB so it works either way.
  • WhatsApp compresses video again when you send it. Shrinking it here first keeps the double loss down.
  • To keep the original quality, send it as a Document instead — up to 2 GB. It arrives as a file rather than a playable video.

Common questions

How large can a WhatsApp video be?

The official help says 100 MB at 720p on a fast connection and 64 MB at 480p on a slow one (checked 12 September 2026). The same page also says "64 MB on all platforms", so the official wording is inconsistent.

Why target 64 MB?

It is the value for a slow connection, so a file that fits it will send either way.

I want to send something bigger.

Send it as a Document — up to 2 GB. It will not play inline in the chat.

Does WhatsApp lower the quality too?

Yes, to 720p or 480p by default. Choosing HD in the settings keeps a little more.

I thought the limit was 16 MB?

That is the WhatsApp Cloud API limit for businesses. It no longer applies to the ordinary app.
