Tips from the pros
- Removing the sound frees up room. If a video is only just over a limit, muting it can be enough.
- You cannot silence only part of a video. Cutting that section out is usually quicker.
- Your original file is untouched — the silent version is saved as a new file.
Common questions
How much smaller does it get?
By the size of the soundtrack — roughly 1 to 1.5 MB per minute at typical bitrates.
Does the picture get worse?
The video is rebuilt, so there is a small loss. Choose the "High" quality setting if you want to keep as much as possible.
Can I put the sound back later?
Not here. Keep your original file.
Can I mute just one part?
No. Cut that section out instead, or use a full editor.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Everything happens inside your browser.
