How to use it
- Press "Choose a video" and pick a wide video.
- Drag the 9:16 frame in the middle to the part you want to show.
- Change the size of the frame with the handle at the bottom right.
- Press "Compress and save" and it is saved at 1080x1920.
Tips from the pros
- Cropping a 1080p wide video to 9:16 means stretching it about 1.8x. If you start from 4K, it stays clean when it goes tall.
- Putting a person a little above the middle is easier to watch.
- If you are adding words, leave a little room at the top and bottom so the app's own display does not cover them.
Common questions
What happens to the picture quality?
You are using only part of the wide video, so it gets rougher by as much as it is stretched. Above 1.5x you get a warning.
Can I add black bars at the top and bottom instead?
For now it is cropping only. We will look at black bars in the next version.
What size is the finished video?
1080x1920. It works for TikTok, Shorts, and Reels.
Is there room to spare with a 4K video?
Yes. A 9:16 crop from 4K is still bigger than 1080x1920, so nothing has to be stretched.
Does the sound stay the same?
Yes, it stays the same.
